@quincyonq no not at all, it was when you said both can but most games dont, thats when i relealised that i was not clear in my statement. after all i have an old fx5950 ultra gpu from way back when that can put out 2048×1536 but that dont mean i could run crysis (or any other game) in that res (forgeting about shaders and the like) and yes i did my post was being writen as you was making your list thats why it was posted seconds after yours where i said about echocrome

@quincyonq well of course they can do the ps3 plays 1080p bluray ffs. hence why i said about i should of been more clear, displaying a 1080p frame is alot different then being able to run a game at 1080p. technically being able to do it is very different then doing it. as i said echocrome and elefunk are 1080p. but you name me 5 of the top selling games that are in 1080p… whats that? you cant? oh and why is that?

sorry i should of been more clear. its the console that cant handle the game at 1080p not that the console cant do 1080p full stop
yes they can do, but hardly ANY game can. like cod’s are 600p upscaled, gt5p had 1080p menus but actual gameplay was upscaled from 1280×1080,mgs 4 is 1024×768, halo 3 1152×640, l4d 1280×720 ect ect. the only games in full 1080p are mainly small games like echocrome, elefunk and such.
you will not find a 1080p cod,halo,nfs,ac,bioshock,dead space, forza,ect . i guess i should of been more clear, yes they can if they have no real work to do, most dont get to or above 720p with any kind of AA

@quincyonq no, as i said ps3 is 720p and 360 is 1080i NATIVE! yes they can upscale to 1080p but its not real 1080p, since it basically takes the NATIVE image and fills in the missing pixels with a colour match itself! its NOT a real 1080×1920 frame/image. once you can grasp that its not actual a real 1080p image, hopefully you can get the rest of the info i gave as to why its not as important for the ps3 to upscale as it is for the interlaced image of the 360s native 1080i.

@quincyonq sorry i missed the reason off, you asked why ps3 are mainly 720p the answer is, its not really important since its already progressive scan it displays the whole image, where as on the 360 its 1080i (interlaced) so it only shows every other vertical line which will show up (mainly blurs) in fast paced motion so its more of a factor for the 360 to upscale to progressive scan if you google “interlaced” you can see loads of images

@slickjaia NONE of the consoles do 1080p they only upscale the image, in the same way you can upscale a dvd to hd. ps3 is 720p native (921,600 pixels) the 360 is 1080i native (1,036,800 pixels) however since its interlaced it has 520 vertical lines against 720p’s 720 lines so in a native state 720p is better then 1080i in fast pace motion which most games are
